What ignites your spark?

In Creative, Inspire, Writing on June 14, 2013 at 10:13 pm

I’m always on the lookout for things that inspire me. And I’m always connecting with those who fuel that inspiration and creativity. Or at least, I try to.

The Internet and social media have certainly helped facilitate that. My day job predominantly involves writing for e-learning, which means I dedicate my hours to projects that I believe inspire and grow people. And this job is made possible via the Internet. It’s a cyclic process. So it would be highly ironic if I didn’t believe in its power.

I also believe everyone has a voice and a story to tell. You may not be able to write it out, but there are other creative ways to tell your story. Artists and creatives paint, sing, dance, sculpt, produce, and create; with one ultimate goal: to share. To be heard. And for some of us, it’s therapeutic. Cathartic.

The basics

In Copywriting, Grammar, Inspire, Language, Punctuation, Spelling, Writing on June 8, 2013 at 12:47 pm

It’s been a while, I know, and I apologize for that. There is no excuse, but I have been busy.

I also know that I have committed to a blog a month at least. Not only to you, but to myself. Just to keep the learning going.

It wasn’t that I was struggling for an idea for the next blog; or what I wanted to share. It was that I had all these ideas, and then upon reflecting on them, realized they fell short. Or at least I thought. You see, I got so excited about sharing them, I wasn’t even sure anyone else would get as excited. So those ideas are shelved. For now.

In my line of work, I come across different styles of writing in various degrees.

Sometimes I am thrown pages of content and my job is to clean it up. Structure the mess into something that half resembles a cohesive piece of work.

Suffice to say, the day is never dull.

I recently had to review a couple of pieces that got me thinking, and this sparked an idea for a blog.

And I apologize if it seems like it took me forever to get here, but I’m getting to the point.

If you’re still reading, great. Let’s continue.

Inspiration, where art thou?

In Art, Communication, Copywriting, Creative, Design, Inspire, Writing on April 17, 2013 at 12:05 am

People often ask me where I get my inspiration from.

So today, I thought I’d share.

Two simple tips.

One. A notebook. Or your iPhone. Or any device you can write, note, or record your thoughts down, into, or on.

Two. Your senses.

A good sound foundation

In Copywriting, Creative, Language, Punctuation, Writing on February 17, 2013 at 2:28 am

The other day, I had the unfortunate privilege to work on a document that, I swear, must have been written by monkeys.

As I trawled through the pages of words to make sense of fragmented sentences thrown together to resemble something close to paragraphs upon paragraphs of content, I realized I wasn’t simply working on the document to ready its content for an elearning platform. I was fully editing the document. It was rife with red from my tracked edits. Indeed, most of my comments included why sentences were changed, words were chopped, and paragraphs restructured.

This got me thinking. The importance of a good foundation is inevitable. But what does this mean?

In one word: structure.
